Foundations of CPS: Where are we and How should we move forward?

CPSE Labs event

This workshop has a two-fold purpose; first to provide perspectives and reflections on what is currently perceived as "Foundations for CPS" (reflecting state of the art) with suggestions for what might be missing, and secondly to elicit ideas and discuss how a longer-term discussion among experts to evolve our understanding of CPS foundations can be stimulated and maintained.

The workshop is aimed at experts in CPS from academia and industry representing relevant (and multiple) academic disciplines and industrial domains.

Workshop Approach

A dialogue will be initiated already before the workshop starts using a suitable discussion forum (being set-up as part of Platforms4CPS ) - enabling recommendations of existing investigations, opinions, recorded statements etc.

The workshop format will include short talks and discussions, with an emphasis on the latter and an intention to use a world café format for structuring the discussions. Presentations at the workshop will provide:

  • Reflections on existing investigations in the area (typically from the perspectives of computer science and control)
  • Complementary perspectives that received less attention, such as human-in the loop and complexity management from a systems engineering perspective
  • Suggestions for approaches to maintain a longer term dialogue on these topics
The discussion part will encompass reflections, ideas and brainstorming on the topic "CPS foundations" including novel and emerging aspects that will require attention, as well as on how to form and maintain a longer term discussion among experts to evolve our understanding of CPS foundations.

Further information is available on the workshop webpage.
